Promoting Workplace Integrity: Benefits and Strategies
Corruption occurs through various causes. One of the main causes that fluctuates corruption is Integrity. Integrity or self-integrity is a factor that affects corruption in every aspect. Integrity simply refers to honesty, being honest with yourself, with your work, position, power, decisions and many more. Here, we'll be talking more about work-related integrity. Integrity in the workplace can elevate other different aspects of work. Without Integrity in every employee, the workplace can dilate from the actual work itself. So levels of Integrity can seriously affect the workplace and work.
If people just do the job for what they are assigned for there would not be any corruption in this world. But our human nature also has a negative aspect of disobeying these things for self-benefit. Every action that people take is their choice. In the workplace we also have choices. Choices being honest and dishonest. Staying within the boundaries of the workplace, and following its rules is our responsibility. Disobeying these will harm us and the workplace too. Each person has their integrity. And their integrity is their responsibility. Integrity is one's own identity in the workplace. Different character traits/strategies of Integrity;
- Honesty: This trait is one of the most crucial traits for having Integrity. Honesty with yourself as well as others. Those who are honest with themselves strive to learn from others and their mistakes. They accept themselves and try to be better every time. Being honest with others' views, and thoughts is also in this trait.
- Respectful: Respectful means respecting others, their time, feelings, views and many more. People with Integrity are on time with meetings, and deadlines and keep other people's feelings in mind. We can demonstrate this trait by being punctual, respecting others' views and opinions and understanding them before questioning or opposing them.
- Gracious: People with this trait are grateful for everyone around them. Practices like saying "thank you" when someone assists you, assisting others in their work, and doing favours for others are some practices that we can follow along.
- Trustworthy: Capable of being trusted by others in any situation is a trait of Integrity. Completing your commitments, not over-promising, letting others know the truth, giving honest reactions, and respecting other's personal information are some practices. We should be able to be trusted by our co-workers in the work that we specialize in,
- Responsible: People with Integrity take account of their actions and decisions at work. They avoid blaming others in any situation. They accept their mistakes. They are aware of their actions and their results.
