The Role of Transparency in Preventing Corruption

We know corruption is like a disease It has spread everywhere, in every part of the world, in every country, in every sector of the country. This is a global issue which is generated by the human's way of thinking. Corruption is a human-generated problem. The way of thinking of humans has created this problem. But like every other problem, there are solutions for it and, there are ways to prevent this from occurring now and further down in the future. So let's discuss about it.

A country is run by the government. The government runs the country through the taxes collected from the citizens. The role of the collection of tax is that the tax should be invested in the country, for the better of the country. But in actuality, what is being done with taxes we citizens are informed about. Maybe what should be done with the taxes is not being done, we don't know. As a citizen, it is our right to know what is being done with the tax that we're paying, how they are being used, and where it is being invested in. We citizens should have every detail about the money that we're separately giving to the country.

So for this problem, fortunately, we do have a solution for it which is known as Transparency. By the word itself, the meaning is clear but let us further dive into this solution that can be implemented in every sector globally.

Here, Transparency is the practice of making every piece of information about the country visible and easily available to the citizens, stakeholders, and relevant authorities. Transparency fosters openness and involves disclosing information related to the government's activities such as financial transactions, the voting process, the decision-making process, business activities, import-export and other similar activities that are carried out by the government for running the nation. Transparency can not only be implemented in the government sector but other sectors like the private sector, the education sector, hospitals and medical care, and similarly every other sector in the nation that performs giving some service and having transactions.

What's happening behind the doors? People need to know! Implementing transparency is not difficult It can be approached by every company, and sector that does buy and sell activities. People should get the right information. Anything other than that is fraud in this case we call it corruption.
So, how can transparency be beneficial and play an important role in preventing corruption? Let's see:

  1. Reputation: Once a company is forced to apply transparency in their daily activities, they are automatically forced to do the right things that are needed to be done. If they do participate in corruption, everything can be seen. This results in losing the trust of their consumers and ultimately the fall of the company.
  2. Promoting Accountability: Transparency puts a form of additional responsibility on the company or the authority. With this, the company can be more aware of its activities. It holds the company accountable for every action taken by them whether knowingly or unknowingly. There would be a fear of public exposure and legal consequences to the company.
  3. Preventing fraud: Transparency can show the inappropriate use of the resources of the company. The publicly available data on financial transactions, resources, and audits enables the stakeholders to see the irregularities which reduces the opportunity for corruption and fraud.
  4. Improves business ethics: If used in a good way transparency can help businesses grow. This act of disclosing all the financial records and everything demonstrates their commitment to integrity. This will further attract more new consumers and help them grow.
  5. Build up public trust: The act of transparency by a company automatically builds up public trust cause all the consumer ever wants is safety, honesty and equality. And when building trust this responsibility of the company reduces the chances of getting into corrupt practices.

In conclusion,
Transparency is a fight against corruption. By promoting all these activities listed above and other similar activities we can be one step ahead in erasing corruption. These all activities can have a larger impact than expected. It encourages individuals, authorities, government, and private companies to foster integrity, a fairer and more just society. We all must continue to apply these from our sides as much as possible cause everything starts with our initiation.

"Corruption cannot thrive, where Transparency shines."
